Can anyone identify the white devices shown in this image? They appear to be timing devices, but if so, why the need for so many?

Those would be programmable timers, which are made by Pyrex. The timers have multiple chronograph features, including 12-hour and 24-hour clocks, elapsed time and countdown.

If you look at the image, each crew member is provided their own (the photo shows two for MS1 Leland Melvin and one for MS4 Stan Love).

They are used for multiple tasks, ranging from rendezvous and docking procedures to robotic arm operations and tracking spacewalk timelines.

They are now made and sold by CDN and are known as the CDN PT1A.

Although lightweight and easy to use, they seem a little flimsy. I read somewhere but can no longer find the article that the magnet and clip is removed and Velcro is added.

(I have one on the fridge and one on the dash of my Bronco.)

All times are CT (US)
