Are there any known reproductions of the Manned Flight Awareness coins made with flown metal for Apollo 8 and Apollo 11?

Are there two different versions of the Apollo 11 MFA medallions? I thought they were the same size as the Apollo 8. The Apollo 11 medallions I have are about a quarter of an inch smaller than the Apollo 8 and made from a heavier metal than aluminum.

Apollo 8 and Apollo 11 Manned Flight Awareness medallions differ in size and material.

There are two variants of the Apollo 11 MFA medallion, a more common silver colored alloy variant and a less common gold plated version.

Thanks! The aluminum and gold-plated versions of the Apollo 11 are the same size, correct?

From what I have read, it seemed likely the 2nd anniversary versions were plated on top of existing medallions from the first run, correct?

Yes, it is believed the gold-plated second anniversary medallions were made from medallions struck with the original run.

Reviving this thread, I have noticed variation between an Apollo 11 Barco Mint (Manned Flight Awareness) medallion received years ago and a recent "dealers lot" of seven of the same medallion. Text side is similar but the lunar scene sides show noticeable differences.

Were there multiple runs with changes to die engraving? Counterfeits seem unlikely given modest value. Both weighed in at 11.1 grams.

The one I've had longer (left) is different from the dealer lot coins (right). I've found examples of both strikes on the internet but most match the dealer lot design.

All times are CT (US)
