collectSPACE NASA's innovative Saturn V rocket to launch onto 2024 US dollar coinThe historic rocket that launched the first astronauts to the moon will blast off from the back of a new dollar coin in 2024. NASA's Saturn V booster will be featured on the U.S. Mint's American Innovation $1 Coin representing the state of Alabama. The Commission of Fine Arts (CFA) and the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee (CCAC) separately reviewed the candidate designs and made differing recommendations to the director of the mint. |

An exceptionally well designed coin.Although I must admit when first looking at it I thought the land masses were poorly demarcated. And then it dawned! That's the moon, not the Earth. ☺️ |

The U.S. Mint will begin sales of rolls and bags of Alabama's American Innovation $1 coin on April 8, 2024.Proof and reverse proof sets of the 2024 American Innovation coins will be issued later in the year. The Mint seems to have stopped offering individual reverse proof sets for each coin as it did earlier in the American Innovation series. |

collectSPACE Moon rocket money: US Mint releases $1 coin celebrating Saturn VAt the same time that millions of Americans will be looking up to see the moon eclipse the Sun, the United States Mint will be releasing for sale a golden dollar coin celebrating the innovative rocket that launched the first people to cast shadows on the lunar surface. The new Alabama American Innovation $1 coin honors NASA's Apollo-era Saturn V rocket and the state where it was designed and built. Rolls and bags of the non-circulating legal tender coins go on sale on Monday (April 8) at noon EDT (1600 GMT), just as the path of totality for the solar eclipse begins to cross over the west coast of Mexico, beginning its span over North America. (The timing of the coin's release coinciding with the solar eclipse was coincidental.) |

Do we know its metallic composition? I'm presuming the gold colour isn't due to a gold content. |

Have others here collected the Saturn V coin since its release?I was hoping that the U.S. Mint would continue its earlier practice of issuing single reverse proof examples of the American Innovation coins, as the Maryland example came in a very nice portfolio with details about the Hubble Space Telescope. According to the mint, though, that product line has been discontinued. I initially bought a couple of loose coins (I did not need or want a full roll or bag), one with each mint mark, but recently "upgraded" to an NGC slabbed pair that I think displays the coins nicely. As a bonus, NGC distinguished these coins as "First Releases," similar I think to philatelic First Day of Issue postmarks. |

I purchased a roll from each mint.My Dad has been collecting other coins from the Mint for several years now, so I was encouraged to purchase the rolls vs single coins. I did the same for the Maryland coin, along with the proof edition. Curiously enough, I was recently wondering the same thing: Whether or not the Mint would issue a proof edition of the Alabama coin. I look forward to the future releases from Florida and Texas. |
