Since 2006, the Kazakhstan Mint of the National Bank of Kazakhstan has been issuing a series of space exploration-related legal tender proof and uncirculated coins. Earlier releases have included "Space (2006), "First Space Satellite" (2007), and "Space Ship 'Vostok'" (2008).The Mint's latest release in the space series honors the Apollo-Soyuz Test Project. The 2008 and 2009 issues were offered in two varities: a 500 tenge bi-metal proof limited to 4000 pieces and a 50 tenge white German silver uncirculated coin limited to 50,000 pieces. The 2006 and 2007 coins were offered only as 500 tenge proofs, limited to 4,000 pieces each. According to Coin World, the space coins can be ordered through Euro Collections International for prices ranging from $7.25 to $135 (US). |
