The U.S. began its last flight to the Russian Mir Space Station on June 2, 1998 with the liftoff of the Space Shuttle Discovery and her six-member crew. During four days docked to Mir, more than 1,100 pounds of water and almost 4,700 pounds of cargo, experiments and supplies were exchanged between the two spacecraft.

The attached is a swatch of beta cloth material flown aboard STS-91 as part of the orbiter's payload bay liner. Installed over insulation blankets (in a manner similar to window screening) the liner helped maintain the cleanliness of the payload bay and as such was replaced between missions where configuration needs, damage or discoloration demanded. This liner sample is from a NASA-created and distributed commemorative bookmark.
