STS-70, launched 9:41am ET on July 13, 1995, was the 70th flight of the Space Shuttle and the 21st for the orbiter Discovery. The primary objective was the deployment of the 7th Tracking and Data Relay satellite (TDRS-G).

The attached section of solar-shield blanket was last installed aboard Discovery, on mission STS-70. It may have flown on prior flights as the accompanying NASA documentation indicates it was removed from the orbiter 17 months following STS-70, prior to the flight of STS-82 in January 1997 (During the interim, Discovery underwent a nine-month Orbiter Maintenance Down Period (OMDP) in Palmdale California.)
