Since 1965, the Mission Control Center (MCC) has been the nerve center for America's manned space program. The men and women who work in Building 30 at Johnson Space Center (formerly the Manned Spacecraft Center) have been vital to the success of every flight since Gemini 4.
Due to the real-time nature of mission management, it was necessary to design the MCC with consoles that allowed quick and easy servicing of equipment. Individual panels could literally be yanked out by their handles and replaced.
In 1996, the original or Historic Mission Control Center was decommissioned and designated a national landmark.
This faceplate was once part of a CRT console used in the Apollo Mission Control Center.
