Centaur G "First Chips"

Mission: N/A (program canceled)
Comment: A Shuttle Centaur G stage was originally slated to
launch the Galileo spacecraft to Jupiter.

These first chips from the production of a Space Shuttle payload bay-compatible Centaur upper stage was created October 8, 1984 by General Dynamics' Space Systems Division. The Centaur G Program was canceled after the loss of Challenger due to safety concerns over launching humans in the same vehicle as the hydrogen-filled stage.
