I have a school library discard copy of "Shuttle Into Space: A Ride in America's Space Transportation System" by G. Harry Stine. It is a 1978 book for teen readers about an imagined typical mission on the shuttle. Rather sad to read now, how routine they thought it would all be - an interesting look at what the expectations were. And it has the Rockwell color artwork illustrations showing all the key phases of a mission.

Would anyone out there like it? I'll be happy to mail it to the first person with a US address that E-mails me.

It's a good insight into what coulda been, with one shuttle landing, one shuttle being stacked in VAB, and one shuttle a day away from launching on the pad - with the crew being let into the orbiter to check out their experiments and payload!

But the neat thing of the book is one sentence, something to the effect of, "In crew quarters we have computers that will let you connect with any other computers worldwide if you need to check something on your experiments." Keep in mind this is late 70s, way before the Internet as we know it, when such connections were for government or science only. If the book was written today, they would probably say, "In the crew quarters we have palmhelds with secure satellite connections with broadband speeds."
