Slides were a common way to share awesome pictures and tell a story. But they are mute... obviously. Unless when combined with a cassette tape that narrates the story through music and voice, signalling when to project the next breathtaking view of space.
For some time now I have been wanting to bring these embodiments of humble 60's to 80's entertainment into the more easily accessible digital domain. It's rather simple: Scan the slides in high resolution, restore them, digitize the cassette with a good quality cassette recorder, restore if needed. Synchronize the two inertly separated mediums in a video editing program and voila!
I've ordered one to try out as a proof-of-concept. To see if it works.
If anybody would be willing to loan theirs, I will put the end product on YouTube and return the material and high quality scans, audio file and video file. Alternatively, I may be interested in buying.

Received the cassette and slides.
Slides are quite discoloured but I think they can be restored...
Narration screams late 60's entertainment.
A question though: Through the cassette there are short peeps to signal the next slide to be shown. Would you prefer the video of the narration and the slides to be with or without the beeps?

If the video presents the next slide automatically synchronuous to the narration, then I see no need for the beep. No action wold be required at the beep, so then it might be rather distracting.
Alternatively to the restored, but discoloured and not so sharp slides, better reproductions of the photos might be used as far as available.

Its an automatic video, it will go to the next slide on its own as the video and narration progresses.

Is it one piece of music throughout? Or does each slide have it's own musical piece?
what I mean is that if the background music stops and starts, then the original beep might be nice as it marks the beginning/end, but if the music flows naturally from slide to slide then it would probably be distracting.
What's stopping you from making two versions though? "original" and "modern"?

Brilliant! When I visited KSC in 2018 we visited an antique shop in Titusville and one of the things I saw was an Apollo 12 slide pack with cassette I regret not buying it but thought of the idea of recreating it by downloading pictures from NASA and recording a commentary on to a cassette tape with sound clips from the internet and using a modern LED projector to display the slides!

Narrated Space: First Flight Of Space Shuttle
Finley Holiday slide collection for next week is a tour around and through the Kennedy Space Center during what appears to be the 80's.
I thought that may be an interesting trip down memory lane for some of you.
Did you ever visit the KSC during this time, and is there anything you remember?
