I have the tremendous good fortune to be able to live vicariously through my nephew, who is a robotics operations specialist for the Shuttle and Station at Johnson Space Center. I visited him at work in August, and he gave me a behind-the-scenes tour that I will never forget.

In this album, you can see some of the photos I took in:

  • the Robotics Planning Facility
  • Building 9 - the Space Vehicle Mockup Facility, including some photos inside one of the Space Shuttle Crew Compartments
  • Mission Control Center, including the Space Station Flight Control Room, Space Shuttle Flight Control Room, Apollo-era Mission Control, and some of the mission support rooms
  • the Jake Garn Simulator and Training Facility, including shots inside the Shuttle mission trainer
Enjoy! Jonathan

Great pictures Jonathan. Thank you for sharing. In 1995 I was lucky enough to enjoy a similar tour with a friend from the PAO; the "kid in a candy store" feelings were identical to those captured in the photo you posted here.
