Gemini 4 backup command pilot Frank Borman is having his spacesuit fitted in the suiting trailer at Pad 16 during a simulated test with backup pilot Jim Lovell at Cape Kennedy on April 30, 1965. |

Had the suit he wore on Gemini 7 been manufactured yet? |

I don't think so. Borman and Lovell were chosen as prime crew for Gemini 7 on July 1, 1965 and NASA only announced the selection of the David Clark G5C IVA lightweight suit for the flight on Aug. 12. |

The earliest photos I have of Borman and Lovell wearing the G-5C suits are dated October 15, 1965, during water egress training. |

I got a laugh from the (what looks to be) naugahyde chair that they've got Borman sitting in during the fitting. Gotta love those old fashions. Naugahyde, or "pleather," meaning plastic leather. A great complement to beta cloth.Although were the suits made of beta cloth at the time or was that spacesuits post-Apollo 1? |

The Gemini G3C suit, used only on Gemini 3, had six layers of nylon and Nomex, with the boots also made of Nomex. For Gemini 4-12 (except 7), the G4C had additional Mylar layers for insulation and temperature control. The suit used by Cernan on 9A's ill-fated EVA had Chromel added to the legs to prevent heat damage from the AMU thrusters Cernan was to test.Post-Apollo 1, the standard A7L suit was made of the same materials stated above (except Chromel), plus Dacron in addition to the Beta cloth. |

Cernan's suit was on display at the Air Force Museum in Ohio. It's the only one like it I ever saw. They had it mislabeled as an X-15 suit. |

Cernan's G4C pressure suit, flown on his mission, and a protective coverlayer (with the Chromel) used in training, are on display in the exhibit 'Outside the Spacecraft: 50 Years of EVA' at the National Air and Space Museum in DC until June 8. |

If I recall correctly, Wally Schirra wore the G3C suit on GT-6. This was of course made for him as backup CDR for GT-3. |
