Don't let failure be an option — make sure your space treasures get signed by legendary Apollo 13 astronaut Fred Haise! The Astronaut Scholarship Foundation (ASF) is hosting an
exclusive mail-in signing with Haise now through July 27, 2012.
So Space Fans, send in your artifacts, covers, models, photos, flown items — just about anything that can be mailed — or choose from one of several Haise portraits from the Astronaut Store for this Space Legend to autograph! Items may be personalized by request and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity with a photo of Haise signing the piece.
Once received, your item will be logged, tagged and stored in a secure location until the signing. All items must be accompanied by the ASF Order Form and Item Description Form and reach the ASF office by July 27.
A portion of the proceeds will benefit ASF's mission of providing scholarships to exceptional college students pursuing degrees in science and technology.
Haise served as both a Marine Corps aviator and Air Force pilot before being selected to NASA's fifth group of astronauts in 1966. He served as backup Lunar Module Pilot for Apollo 8 and Apollo 11 before being named Lunar Module Pilot on the famed Apollo 13 mission that he flew with Jim Lovell and Jack Swigert. He went on to be named the back-up commander for Apollo 16 and would then serve in the Space Shuttle Program Office. In 1977, as the commander of one of two Approach and Landing Test Project (ALT) crews, he flew Space Shuttle Enterprise during the vehicle's first, third and fifth/final flights at Edwards. Haise was inducted into the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame in 1997, and is an active supporter of the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation.
