Progress MS-25 launches to space station

The 86th Progress cargo spacecraft to head for the International Space Station, Progress MS-25 is now on its way, having launched on Friday (Dec. 1) at 4:25 a.m. EST (0925 GMT or 2:25 p.m. local time) from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan.

The resupply ship reached its preliminary orbit and deployed solar arrays and navigational antennas to begin a two-day, 34-orbit journey to the space station.

The Progress will dock to the Poisk mini-research module on Sunday (Dec. 3) at 6:14 a.m. EST (1114 GMT).

On board, the Progress is carrying about three tons of food, fuel, and supplies for the Expedition 70 crew.

Progress manually docked to space station

The Progress MS-25 spacecraft was docked to the International Space Station's Poisk mini-research module at 6:18 a.m. EST (1118 GMT) on Sunday (Dec. 3).

Cosomonaut Oleg Kononenko took over manual control of the Progress' approach and a problem developed with the ship's KURS automated docking system.

Progress MS-25 undocks, reenters

The Progress MS-25 cargo spacecraft left the Russian segment of the International Space Station on Tuesday (May 28) at 4:39 a.m. EDT (0839 GMT or 11:39 a.m. Moscow time) to free up space for a new cargo spacecraft, the Progress MS-27, Roscosmos announced.

The spacecraft entered autonomous flight after undocking. It fired its braking engines to deorbit and enter the atmosphere at 8:21 a.m. EDT (1221 GMT). Most of the spacecraft was expected to burn in the atmosphere, with smaller pieces falling into the Pacific Ocean.

Progress MS-25 will be succeeded by Progress MS-27, which is scheduled for launch from the Baikonur Cosmodrome on May 30 and dock to the ISS on June 1.
