The following was posted to The Outpost Tavern's website today. The Outpost is the astronaut hang-out that was featured in the movie Space Cowboys, among other references. quote: We, a group of OutPost Tavern “friends,” have banded together to reach out to all “Friends of the OutPost” (please note that Sharon, the proprietor of the OP, did not start this funding raising effort - the "Friends of the OutPost" are doing this): - The beer and wine license for Harris County has jumped from $500 to $3,000 (all businesses in Texas have been similarly affected with TABC license fee increases this year). This license must be renewed before June 26, 2006.
- Unfortunately, and there is no excuse for this, the Outpost recently incurred a violation from the TABC (Texas Alcohol and Beverage Commission):
— A $4,500 fine is due to the TABC on June 12, 2006 — If this fine is not paid, then the Outpost must shut down alcoholic beverage service for 30 calendar days — If this happens then there cannot be alcohol on the premises – zero, zip, nada, no byob, zero. — We are not sure if the OutPost can re-open after this shut down. - To make matters worse, the NASA Parkway Bypass road construction has slowed business, and we’re entering the summer season and business is always slow during May, June, July, August.
“Friends of the OutPost” are asking for your support and help: - We are collecting donations to get the TABC license.
- If we can raise enough to then satisfy the TABC fine, so much the better.
If you would like to help out, please: - Write a check payable to the OutPost
- or give cash in an envelope and write your name on the outside (envelopes are at the bar – just ask for one)
Update, 8pm June 3, 2006: You can "sponsor" a barstool at the OP for $100! Stop by the OP for details - most folks are submitting their business cards or business names and a "sign" will be affixed to a bar stool's legs - visible even when someone is sitting on the bar stool. Some folks are considering having a picture mounted on the bar stool (kids, grandkids, dog, cat, etc.)We’ll see if we are close to our goal on June 10th and keep you informed. If our goal to keep the OutPost open is not reached, your money will be returned to you.
For more information on how to help, see the Outpost Tavern's website. |
