Hello:Did you try to use a CCD CAMERA? These are the most popular types. they range from $400 to $3000 U.S. DOLLARS. I hope this helps. |

There are many ways to do this, ranging from using an inexpensive 30 dollar off the shelf Webcam (with the appropriate adapter) , relatively low cost camera CMOS and CCD products specifically developed for this function all the way up to the high end stuff. Conventional digital SLR's (like the CANON EOS, 10D, 20D) are also good (in fact just about any off the shelf consumer digital camera can be used with a reasonable degree of success for short images of bright celestial objects). There are a number of considerations which govern suitability of the camera chosen, wether you are looking to do still or live imagery, what you are imaging (brighter objects like planets and the moon can be photographed with shorter exposer times and generally require less sensitive cameras then dimmer deep space objects. What type of mount are you using (exposers greater then 1-2 seconds require a mount that accurately tracks the target). What sort of post processing do you want to do to enhance the image....determining wether to go with a color or B/W camera is also important (most folks go with monochrome coupled to filters to make beter use of the chip resources)...some links follow below which span the gamet from low to high end products...I have formulated opinions of each and would be happy to assist....if you want to see what can be done with a simple camera and a solar filter take a look at my site (have some images in the Astronomy section of a live feed of the solar disk)..additionally there are numerous other online yahoo chat groups and ASTROMART(.com) and CLOUDYNIGHTS(.com) forums which are a good place to interact with others like us who share an interest in astrophotography.... www.SAC-IMAGING.com http://www.meade.com/dsi/index.html http://www.astrovid.com/ http://www.sbig.com/ http://www.starlight-xpress.co.uk/ http://www.fli-cam.com/ quote: Originally posted by Madon_space: Hi EveryoneI have the 6" NEWTONIAN REFLECTOR TELESCOPE and i want to connect it up to my pc, i know that there is an electric lens that you can buy to do this but i am not sure what this is called. Rob..probably your best bet then is the Philips ToUcam PRO 840 available from either SCOPETRONIX or Adiorandak Video Astronomy (im sure there are other UK sources)...make sure you purchase the correct adapater to interface the webcam to your eyepiece holder....with the right adapater you can go direct into your eyepiece holder (prime focus) or alternatively with an eyepiece projection coupler, mate the camera to your eyepieces... total cost for would not run you more then 200 USD for the newer 840K version....a lot less for an earlier generation....I would also recommend you join ASTROMART and place a (free) want add for a used astrophotography optimized Webcam ..you can certainly get a setup for less then 100 dollars there.. http://www.scopetronix.com/ ToUCam users group is here: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ToUcam/ R/Scott ------------------ Scott Schneeweis URL: http://www.SPACEAHOLIC.com/ [This message has been edited by LT Scott Schneeweis (edited May 27, 2005).] |
