I didn't know where to put this, so I thought I'd put it in free space for now.Has anyone had success sending an astronaut something to carry into space with them, like a mini flag or a small pin? |

Yes and no. Alexander Viktorenko took a cover of me with him in his spacesuit for the German mission Soyuz TM14. A friend of mine living in Moscow and being a friend of him organized this.Having said this: the only way to succeed with such an endeavour is a) be closely acquainted with a cosmonaut or have a friend who is; b) to pass through one of the commercial agents who organize this and pay for the pleasure. Just sending something to some astronaut or cosmonaut chosen by the alphabet definitely won't work. ------------------ Jürgen P Esders Berlin, Germany http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Astroaddies |

I took a little plastic Mercury Capsule pencil sharpener.....ripped out the cutting blade part, shoved a small American Flag into it along with a stamp or two (if I recall correctly) and sent it to Alan Shepard with my sincere and humble 17 year old American's request that he fly it on his Apollo 14 flight to the Moon for me. He sent it back with regrets. Gene Bella South Bend |

I have a friend from Spokane who's sent some of his Fire Department pins to Eileen Collins and others who carried them on their respective missions. He did not ask for the pins to be returned> They were left for the astronauts to do with as they saw fit. - Derel |
