Yep - that's all it took me - this afternoon - to make a Saturn V

Straight up ! (Just like the rocket)
No joke - just one hour !

How ?

Well, it was a modelling kit that caught my eye on a visit to a local everything-for-a-pound store (bit like American everything-for-a-dollar store when I was looking for cheap garden items.

It said on the packaging "Make The Solar System" . Now who could resist that!

It actually turned out to be a kit to make fridge magnets that contained a plastic mould , plaster of paris, some magnets ,colour paints and even a brush!

The mould was - in fact - of four space vehicles - Saturn V,the space shuttle, a shuttle astronaut and the MER rover. The idea is to make-up the plaster of paris, pour into mould, let set for 20 minutes, push in the fridge magnets then let set for a full hour. After this hour was 'up', the moulded items were removed and allowed to 'cure' for a further four hours. After which time, the item is ready for painting.

Now for one pound (about US$1-75c) this is an incredible bargain since the mould is very very 'accurate' in its representation of the vehicles .

So, after all these years, I 'built' my own Saturn V rocket in one hour! It may not have the full scale appeal of one at KSC but it does have magnetic appeal :-))

And the Mars rover is busy exploring the outer reaches of the coldest region of my house - the fridge :-))

And - what's more - I can go and make dozens of these as the mould remains reusable.

Just need extra plaster of paris powder !

Hope the rover doesn't find any "life" in the fridge ;-)
