I believe that moments after Apollo 12
launched on this day (Nov.14,1969) and had
indeed been struck by lightning, that Pete
Conrad said something like-"Our crew was
conducting the first all-weather testing
of the Apollo program" or something to that
effect!
I do recall him later making that statement
during various interviews!
I miss ol' Pete and I always had the impression that being on a mission under
his command would be fun and exciting, as
well as very productive!!
He seemed to have truly enjoyed walking on
the moon and he was extremely proud of his
accomplishments on Skylab!!
Well done, Pete Conrad!!

.. theres a good book on the Apollo program by Charles Murray that devotes a chapter to that "..I think we need to do a little more all-weather testing" concept..

I think Charles Murray's Apollo is the best book on the technical side of the Apollo program there is. Really makes Tom Kelly out to be the hero of it.

One neat little detail in that book - was when the CM was bogging down at North American - because folks had to climb out of the CM to go get a tool or a part - the CEO issued a dictate that the guys in the CM could order anyone to go get them anything at any time.

If I recall, the CEO was giving a tour to some NASA VIP and the guy working in the CM did just that. And off the CEO went to get a tool or a part or something. Might have been staged for the VIP's benefit, but a cool little story nevertheless.

Pete Conrad was a great man and he was my friend. I miss him terribly and think of him often. The world is a lesser place because of his passing. I shed many tears when he passed away. His like will not grace our world again !!!! I miss him very much !!! I was proud to be his friend. Donald Brady

One of my greatest regrets was never meeting Pete Conrad. I did meet Bean and Gordon, and could imagine the three of them together. In my opinion the tightest crew to ever fly in the American space program.
