Someone with the email addy:
hahaha@sexyfun.net has sent viruses the past two days.
If that person is amongst the space collecting world, I wish it to end, NOW!
It only seems to be affecting Egroups.

Cindy:

Why do you think its involved with egroups (yahoogroups)? Ive gotten it 5 times in the past 2 days, as have a bunch of others I know.....however 2 of them are not on any yahoogroups.....

Fortunately we dont use Outlook Express and it didnt carry any attachments where the virus is. In fact, due to the message line, none of us opened it....

Okay, a clarification:

hahaha@sexyfun.net does not exist. Its not a real person. It is simply a fake e-mail address which was used by the creator of the virus.

As to the source of its recent rise among collectSPACE readers:

Yesterday I sent a bulletin announcing collectSPACE's second birthday to the cS mailing list. After it was mailed, someone hacked the list and sent the virus. Apparently, the same thing happened again today.

Obviously, we are working to prevent this from happening again. Until then, I can only say sorry...

Nothing to apologize for Rob, certainly nothing you can help......so what youre saying is this originated here? There is also another virus going around which may be similar and originating from a home.com address and is WIN.Sircam.MM I believe, or pretty similar......

So hopefully this will lay some of the paranoia to rest now...thanks!

Any time a virus goes around it is paranoia....

These worms, as they are called, can wreak havoc with an address book.
They attach themselves in peoples email addy's, and are sent to everyone they have had contact with.

I'm glad Robert was able to fix it.
And thank God for virus software...

I've gotten this a couple of times this week, not in Outlook, but in my Netscape. I deleted it every time and didn't bother to open it. I set my message filters to delete it automatically before it even gets to me.

I received the ha ha ha e-mail a few times at the beginning of this year. I was pre-warned about it by a friend - so I just deleted it each time without opening it. As I was on his address book it got sent to me!

Thanks Cindy,

Im very well aware as to how virus's work/transmit, I was curious as to how you came to the conclusion it was through yahoogroups. Thisis exactly why I removed the attachments options from the groups I moderate.

Well, I looked over all the groups I'm in...
(can you say Internet junkie? I think Kirsten and I are neck and neck here.<G> )
Anyway, I tracked it down to Juergen's group, and in the Internet header I noticed:
"collector@collectspace.com."
I sent Robert the header, an voila!
It was on his server....

Super slueth...

That virus has been around for a while, so if you have somewhat current anti-virus software you should be safe.
I work as a computer tech, and see this stuff all the time. Fortunately, I haven't had to deal with a major outbreak like that "Love Bug" virus last year. Ugh...that was ugly!
