A while back I stumbled across a website that carried heavy duty plastic shipping cases for photographs up to 16x20. At that time I had bookmarked the site figuring I would come back to it. Unfortunately, I cannot connect to that site anymore. Does anyone know of such a company that carries them? How do you all send your photos for sigs, without worrying that they will be damaged? |

It depends onwhat im sending, of course, the more valuable the item, the better care I take. For stuff thats got a value, I send it Piority Mail each way, for 2 reasons. First the USPS takes bette care of Prio mail as opposed to1st class. And secondly for the cardboard envelopes which are stiffer than standard 9x12's. I also place them in a plastic sleeve of sorts (I have a few hard plastic sleeves like you use for baseball cards in 8 1/2 x 11 size Ive inherited over the years....or Ill use a simple plastic sleeve like you would place in a binder) in a file folder with a hard cardboard backing on either side. Then I place this SASE'd prio enveloped in the large soft envelope, and fold it down to size to fit, taped appropriately. The strength of these 2 envelopes is amazing.Even if its something that they left in the rain and ran over with a truck, I've neverhad a problem. Another way is to place it in this envelope as described, and place it in larger boxes, padded with newspaper, but suprisingly the worst damage ive had was in one of those boxes. They put ALL boxes in with boxes of all types and I feel this contributed to my damage. However, the flat prio envelopes are placed in a sperate carton. As far as the plastic top loading to which you refer, check with hobby shops that handle sports memorabilia. Al |

I think I've seen those plastic mailers in office supply catalogues, made by Avery. Check out their website. Al is right about boxes. I quit sending stuff in boxes long ago unless it is a rather large book such as Full Moon or one of Kissinger's books. Just too big for padded mailers.Mike |

Thanks Al and Mike for your useful input. Does anybody use any other safe methods? I had purchased a couple 16x20 prints from the Apollo moon landing exibit that was at the Newseum in Wash.D.C. a while back, and they seem alittle big and awkward.[This message has been edited by Helios (edited July 22, 2001).] | |
