OK it's time for my monthly rant about Royal Mail. Firstly let me say that this is not intended to offend any RM employees who are members of this site, nor do I offer my conclusions as being reflective of the attitude of the many decent (and generally long-serving) RM employees, but there is something rotten in the organisation and it seems that neither management nor the unions are prepared to do anything about it.I have just suffered the loss (somewhere between London and Liverpool) of a signed Borman picture sent to another cS member. Quite how a stiff 11x9 inch envelope complete with my return address can go "missing" amazes me. Of course this comes on top of 2 credit cards being stolen in the mail (one of them was used by the thieving b*****d), my son's b'day present from grandma "disappearing" and an item from another cS member to me vanishing into thin air, despite the fact that it was sent recorded delivery! Neighbours have even had mail delivered already opened for them! Our local councillor is now on the case, but PLEASE, if anyone else suffers this sort of mail crime/incompetence, do contact Postwatch, the consumer body, who are obliged to follow up all RM complaints. The more people who do this the more we might get back the RM we used to have several years ago - maybe. Postwatch are handling my complaints and have just sent back a reply to me saying that THEY are totally dissatisfied with RM's responses. I also wrote to the RM Chairman. Got a nice letter back assuring me of a formal response and of course I've received nothing. Maybe his letter to me got stolen too? In future I'm going to label my packages "no credit cards, no cash, not worth stealing - please deliver". Roll on the competitive mail market. Paul Bramley |

The missing Borman photo was meant for me. To say I am disappointed with its disappearance is something of an understatement. It follows only from two signed copies of "Two Sides of The Moon" that were lost en route from Ottakars in Eastbourne only last month. Fortunately they had spare copies that they sent via courier. Sadly, signed suited Borman shots (at a reasonable price) are not as common... Regards, Rick. |

In the past I've had a number of items, lost, stolen or damaged by the Royal Mail. My postie a few years ago decided that as I was not at home, he should take it upon himself to attempt to get a sealed postal tube through my letterbox. He popped the sealed plastic caps off the tube, stood on the tube to flatten it sufficiently enough for it to fit through my letterbox. Needless to say that this damaged the artist proof and re-marqued aviation lithographs and rendered them unfit for their intended use. I've also had a credit card skimmed/used and had numerous items of mail opened. When I took this up with the sorting office I was looked at with disdain. Eventually they changed my postman and now I have no problems (also helps that my postman is an old friend from school and if he did anything to my mail he know's I'd kick his a**e!!).Seriously though, I hope the Borman turns up Paul/Nick. Regards, Derek |

Derek,I think in London the problem is mainly with the sorting offices and their use of contract/temp staff who are obviously not vetted. No doubt the union won't let security cameras anywhere near the workers either. My postie is a gem, but while he's on holiday we get a complete nerd, whom my wife saw yesterday chatting on his mobile phone in front of our 90+yr old neighbour while she struggled to pick up the mail he'd just dropped on her mat. Charming. Paul |

Currently missing is payment from Australia to me by another CS member and friend. What worries me is what items that we are not expecting that go missing, Ie letters from friends, Credit card statements (Actully they never get lost!!!), etc Though I must admit our local guy is pretty good |

It says a lot for the state of the Royal Mail but of late, for anything of significant value I tend to use FEDEX. No complaints with them at all.Regards, Rick.
