As the old ABC "Wide World of Sports" opening used to say; "The thrill of Victory, the agony of defeat" or in my case klutziness.

Victory #1: picked up a Code 3 Apollo 11 Command Module Model. It and the others are really cool. BTW, got mine at Kansas Cosmosphere gift shop. Very proud of it. Was mounted between a signed model of Shuttle signed by Sally Ride and Col Tom Akers, and a really neat model of the Wright Brothers plane (showing the centenial of progress)

Victory #2: Met Captain Dick Gordon yesterday and got him to autograph it. Had visions of adding other Apollo Astronauts to it. BTW, Captain Gordon really like it, but thought the exterior color wasn't quite right. Robert, didn't someone make that comment when this site was reviewing the model pre release.

The Agony of Defeat: About an hour after Captain Gordon signed it, I just flat dropped it in the parking lot. Reminded me of Humpty Dumpty. Picked up several major pieces and shards and am pondering a restoration. Believe that it would look like one of those ancient Pueblo Indian Pots the museums are so good about putting back together, but which non the less still look like a busted pot glued together.

The signed piece survives as a major fragment. Guess I'll start over.

I was very proud of myself as I didn't throw a fit, blame anybody else, the weather, God, etc. and didn't show off my very substanial blue vocabulary. Just kind of said to myself "Gee, I wish I hadn't done that" Did solace myself with a good brew and some Kansas City Master Piece Burnt End BBQ shortly after, so life is good.

Also please no post incident advisse on what I should have done-I have an extensive list in my brain file.

As a scale modeler who has dropped more than my share of works that I have poured hours and hours into...I feel for you...just be thankful it only had ONE signature.

Sorry to hear of your loss Steve. I've been there as I'm sure many of us have. You did handle it amazingly well. An inspiration to us all!

I'm sorry to hear about the breaking! I was at Comicon as well Saturday morning. I felt bad for not purchasing a Gordon autograph but I had tight funds and had already purchased one the year before. But yea, I would have wished to meet you Steve, let me know when you come back to this area.
