I have what I think is an apollo era penlight that would have been used within the CSM or on SkyLab!

Can anyone tell me who manufactured this penlights?

Thanks.

Don't know who manufactured them, but here's a link to a photo of one.

I have two penlights that flew during Gemini.

The first flew on Gemini 9 and was manufactured by ACR Electronics. The second flew on Gemini 11 and was manufactured by Whirlpool.

Neither looks like the photo in the link above. They both are painted grey and have velcro strips on them.

There are good images of the Gemini 12 penlight on the hires EVA photo of Aldrin on the NASA GRIN site, he has one attached to each leg with velcro.

Bemison,

If your flashlight looks like the one in Rizz's link, then you have an Apollo flashlight made by ACR Electronics.

They are brass and should have a small strip of velcro next to the lens.

I have one of the same penlights from Skylab 2/SL-3.

Thanks for your replies. Yes, my penlight is identical to that in the link supplied by Rizz.

I actually have an earlier serial number! Does anyone have any ideas on how I can trace its history within Nasa? I would assume it was used in training. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks.

Hi all,
This is probably just a coincidence, but I just posted a wanted for one of these ACR flashlights in the buy/sell section about 10 minutes ago before seeing this lively discussion ! Wow. These penlights while uncommon were used until STS-34 and beyond. Rumor has it there is one in a bag on the ISS. A friend of mine was trying to get one of these from her dad who worked in the Air Force in the 60's, so apparently they were not limited to NASA. The movie Apollo 13 really diminished the supply of these. They were given out as tokens to cast & crew.

Cheers.
