USS Hornet Sea, Air & Space Museum release
Splashdown 55

Saturday, July 20
Alameda, California

Please join the USS Hornet as we celebrate the 55th anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon landing and the Hornet's role in the recovery of the astronauts when they splashed back down on Earth!

Come by to learn about the most important historical achievement of the 20th century and have fun with your whole family. The USS Hornet is the largest surviving artifact of the Apollo program and we have an award winning Apollo exhibit on board. Our collections includes a SeaKing Helicopter, a block 1 Apollo capsule and a Mobile Quarantine Facility.

Our MC for the day will be the talented Sarah Cruddas!

So far we have the following lined up for this day in addition to our speakers (and more to come on that front!):

On the Flight Deck we will have:

  • We will be hosting a High School Robotics contest. Come see teams compete with their robots! This will be run by FIRST.
  • San Jose Astronomical Association will be on hand with their solar telescopes so you can safely look at the sun!
In the Hangar Bays we will have:
  • Several extra space themed exhibits (Model Rocket Display, Travelling Space Exhibit of touch objects from various space programs, new replica Apollo spacesuit, etc.)
  • Our friends form the local Star Wars clubs
  • Hornet crewmen who were on board during the Apollo recoveries
  • NASA Solar System Ambassador
  • ASTRA Outreach Table
  • Multiple food options

All times are CT (US)
