Hi All: Anyone going to see Eileen Collins' talk at the Air & Space Museum on Wed 5/9? I'm driving there from Cleveland. I'll have my blue International Women's Air & Space Museum Golf Shirt on and I'll be with my husband. Come & say hi.--Marcy P.S. Bringing 2 covers but don't know the signing policy for the talk. |

I'll be there. I plan to wear my BRIGHT red STS-114 polo shirt. It's really hard to miss! Anybody know if there will be any signing opportunities before or after the event? Also be aware. According to NASA.gov, they are constructing a full scale model of the Webb telescope just out the door of the NASM on the mall. It won't be ready for the public until Thursday, but we should be able to see something of it. Cliff |

As of Sunday, they had the "support" pieces up, and last night (Monday) had the gold colored "radar" (sorry but don't know the exact technical name right now) and have a media event scheduled for Thursday, so I would assume that it should be completely put together by Wednesday night |

A very fun evening. Col. Collins spoke about her childhood and career in the Air Force as well as her Astronaut career. A Q&A session was held. Afterwards Col. Collins conducted a signing session in the lobby. |

I had an outstanding evening.Made some new cS friends--they happened to see me flashing my cS sign in the lobby and in the theater. Saw many of my old cS friends, too. Eileen Collins is awesome. If you get a chance to see and hear her, run--don't walk. Inspirational. Garry |

Yes it was an excellent speech by Eileen Collins. Also great to see John Glenn there. During the Q & A (when she answered many questions from the audience)she mentioned that she might be interested in flying in space again but for commercial space enterprises. I got two covers signed afterwards--one being the launch and entry cover. She asked me where I got that one and I told her collectspace.com. Sorry I couldn't say good bye after the autograph line to CS folks but our car was in a parking garage that closed at 10 pm and we had to rush back there. I also heartily recommend hearing Eileen speak if you get the chance. --Marcy |

I too had the great pleasure to attend a speech Eileen Collins gave last year here in Cork city Ireland. She was over for a few days researching her Irish Heritagee (Grand parents or great grandparents I believe) who were from my part of Ireland. A very well spoken, patient and interesting speech.I had a nice 13x19 print out of Discovery in its Pitch Manouvre and a fat sharpie... just wished I had had the guts to walk over and ask for a scribble... Im really going to have to get some courage if Im going to continue this hobby.. Hello all John John |

I'm back from DC. It's good that collectSPACE is back as well. It was fun meeting everyone at the lecture on Wednesday night. I got a chance to talk with Marcy before we went into the theater. (Marcy, if you park at the Holiday Inn-two blocks from the NASM in the future, you won't have to rush out) When we went in the theater, I was happy to see the reserved seats were in the fifth row allowing anyone to sit in the first four rows. My wife was amused that we were all sitting in the first three rows, only a few seats from each other and didn't know it until Garry flashed his sign (Garry, you might want to get a better sign for the next lecture). The best part, of course, was that Eileen stayed to sign autographs after a great lecture and Q&A. She took the time to talk to everyone as well which always makes it nice. I had her 1999 portrait (S99-00858) from a few years ago. She asked me where I got it and I told her it was from JSC. She said " I've been trying to get them to give out a more updated photo, maybe add a little weight or gray my hair some." I noticed that she writes the date on everything. When I got home I checked her ASF photo and that was also dated. One more thing. If anybody has any digital photos they took that night, could you email me off line. I wasn't able to get my SLR and video camera through security, but from all the flashes I think some people did. Thanks, Cliff

I had posted a message following the lecture but it didn't "stick". I'm not sure if it was deleted intentionally or if it a victim of the message board "maintenance." quote: Originally posted by Cliff Lentz: ...She said " I've been trying to get them to give out a more updated photo, maybe add a little weight or gray my hair some."
I told Eileen Collins that it was nice to come to the NASM and meet an astronaut who is young like us (Tom, 50, and myself, 49). She took it really well. quote: Originally posted by Cliff Lentz: ...If anybody has any digital photos they took that night, could you email me off line....
I submitted several photos to the sightings page of Eileen Collins, John Glenn, and the two of them together. Haven't seen them posted yet though.
