I saw this article in this morning's local rag about Boeing adding staff here in Huntington Beach to work on the Orbital Space Plane.I also thought I would have some fun and try doing a little UBB coding, so please forgive me if it goes astray. But, take a look at the artist rendering... does it remind you of anything? http://tinyurl.com/2e8qm ------------------ Warm Regards

As the article is for registered users only, I do not know if it is mentioned but the President's proposed space policy is to supposed to phase out the OSP contract in favor for a new CEV (Crew Exploration Vehicle) series of spacecraft. |

Of course, all of this may be outdated tomorrow, but the design is far from coincidence. NASA chartered a team last spring to look at the possibility of using Apollo-derived technology for OSP.For more, go here: http://www.spaceref.com/news/viewsr.html?pid=9031 ------------------ "America's challenge of today has forged man's destiny of tomorrow." - Commander Eugene Cernan, Apollo 17 Mission, 11 December 1972 |

Personally I wouldn't mind too much if the favoured design for the OSP is a capsule design rather than an winged vehicle - I think both designs have pros and cons. However if a capsule design is selected can we realistically continue to call it an 'orbital space plane' or should some other term be selected? |

See Robert's comment above about the "Crew Exploration Vehicle." Some of the other discussed designs are somewhere in between, more of a bullet shape, perhaps with small wings.------------------ "America's challenge of today has forged man's destiny of tomorrow." - Commander Eugene Cernan, Apollo 17 Mission, 11 December 1972 |

I work for Boeing Space Systems in LA. Over the holidays I happened into a conversation with a couple of engineers from Huntington Beach who told me that the company is designing an updated Apollo capsule as the next transport system and crew life boat for the ISS. I had to question how believable the use of a 40+ year old design was but I guess it's true. |

The only part of the design that is being reused is the basic shape. There aren't alot of uses for wings in space, anyway. Danno |
