I love that someone else has interest in the beta patches! I have all the ones you listed but also have two others. I have a shoulder beta patch of a "space walker". I have it signed by Bruce McCandless and Story Musgrave. I also have a beta patch from STS-6 from the Paul Weitz collection. Just how many different shuttle related beta patches exist... who knows? I eagerly look forward to seeing how many others are mentioned. Great Job Ben! |

I have an Apollo 11 Beta cloth patch in which the emblem is about 8" in diameter. I think it was made as a commemorative issue. |

I believe at some point, space shuttle-era silk-screened emblems ceased being Beta cloth patches as the material used was changed to Ortho-Fabric.Just as with the Apollo astronauts, shuttle astronauts who perform spacewalks are permitted to keep their Ortho-Fabric patches and stripes from their EMU spacesuits. Unlike Apollo however, additional Ortho-Fabric patches are not flown (or seemingly produced) as mementos. |

Could someone help with the actual size of the #11 above. This is the big Apollo 11 patch. I don't recall it's size. Is it 8 inches in size? I think that may be what ILBASSO is referring to. |

There are a couple more out there as well, but it's been many years since I've seen them offered for sale. The first was one that was offered in celebration of stamp collecting exposition during the early 70's, and the other was a cartoon drawing of a stag's head with its tongue sticking out, which I was told was an inside joke regarding Alan Shepard(?), and if I recall correctly, made at his request. Unfortunately, the screen captures that I had of them were lost years ago in a computer crash. As for their size, I don't properly recall, but they may have been the same size as the large Apollo 11s. If anyone out there has a better memory than me, or better yet, copies of these, it would great if you could please fill us in on the proper details. |

This site mentions, and has a great picture of, an 8 inch diameter Apollo 11 Beta. Collector had it signed by Aldrin, Collins, Duke and McCandless.Whether it's 8 or 10 inches, it's a really nice presentation of signatures. Perhaps the owner is a cS member/visitor? |
