Here's Max-Q's latest design effort, which commemorates the coming 50th anniversary of Americans in orbit (February 2012). This one was created in a joint effort with Tim Gagnon. We will be offering these emblems for $7.50 each. |

I was happy to consult on this patch. I suggested the use of the Earth Jorge and I designed for the STS-129 patch. Super job Max Q. |

Here's the artwork for the emblem (full, embroidery-friendly and simplified) -

Nice patch. Does anyone else think Mir deserves a place on it? After all, it hosted Americans in orbit during its lifetime.Granted, the Mir station itself wasn't orbited by the USA. However, the ISS wasn't 100% USA-built. ISS has numerous components constructed and launched by other nations and is on the patch. Maybe a Soyuz could be added too in order to bring the patch up to date. |

It's an interesting thought and you have a valid point about the ISS not being fully-American. However, I'll note that the majority of ISS hardware would not be there were it not for American vehicles (shuttle orbiters) and funding (Zarya was paid for by U.S.). You'd only have Zvezda, Pirs and Poisk up there (Nauka soon to join them). That's why we didn't include Mir and Soyuz. However, we do have some other ideas floating around to commemorate Russian events as well and could easily include both vehicles. The idea of placing Dragon on the emblem was also discussed since the first SpaceX launch is set to occur around the February anniversary, but the idea was eventually taken off the table since it will not be a manned spacecraft. |

I am a little disappointed about that design. With Ed White and Bruce McCandless it looks to me more like a "50 Years of American Spacewalkers" patch (we can celebrate that in a few years...), than a "50 Years of Americans in Orbit" patch. A "50 Years of Americans in Orbit" patch without John Glenn and Friendship 7 for me is not the real thing... |

There is a small Mercury spacecraft on the patch. |

We appreciate the feedback. However, we did include a Mercury capsule along with the other five American vehicles in the orbit trail. The goal was not to create a 50th anniversary of Friendship 7 emblem. We wanted to create something that showed what we've achieved in space over the last 50 years and I believe we've done that. EVAs were a part of our success and we used two of the most iconic images captured during those events to highlight that success. |

There's already a Friendship 7 50th designed and it will be available from the Space Store in February. |

Just got mine today. It's a great patch! My only problem is it's bigger than I expected, I'd bought it to put on a flight suit but now I'll have to find another use for it.Still, I can't complain, it's a real work of art! |

Two patches touched down in Scotland this morning. They are superb in every respect and I am delighted you opted for size you chose.Nathan, all the best with this venture and we look forward to more small masterpieces in the future. |
