Here is the just released 124 patch. Again, as the other recent missions, quite a striking design. |

Very nice, I wonder what the Japanese characters on the bottom patch mean. |

I believe it reads "Kibo", the Japanese Experiment Module. |

Link to hi-res version on NASA's website: quote: The STS-124/1J patch depicts the Space Shuttle Discovery docked with the International Space Station (ISS). STS-124/1J is dedicated to delivering and installing the Japanese Experiment Module (JEM) known as Kibo (Hope) to the ISS. The significance of the mission and the Japanese contribution to the ISS is recognized by the Japanese flag depicted on the JEM Pressurized Module (JPM) and the word Kibo written in Japanese at the bottom of the patch. The view of the sun shining down upon the Earth represents the increased "hope" that the entire world will benefit from the JEM's scientific discoveries.

The crew worked together with NASA artists to design the patch, but Ron Garan was the lead for the project. |

I received the STS-124 patches from starflight-creations and from AB Emblem and discovered slightly differences: - the one that I received from starflight-creations is more thick and has a different white borderI will try to ask both concerning these differences. I assume that it is the same as it was for some other patches that they are are from different runs. Harald

Is that a 4 or 5 D cell Maglite on the right? Also any other crews leave messages? I know that they all put up their flight decal and sign them any other notes get left by crews would be neat to see. |
