On the David Weeks drawings and on photos of flown Mercury capsules, there appear to be three brackets mounted on the fiberglas ring at the base of the capsule at each of the retro package strap attachment points. The center bracket is clearly for the strap attachment to the capsule. Does anybody know what the other two brackets were used for?

I suspect from the drawings and photos that the retro electrical disconnects may have been attached to the bracket to the right of the strap connector. I find no images of what may have been attached to the left bracket, but it appears whatever was there was ripped away at some point.

There were three individual straps coming from a center point to the three brackets you see. Here is a good photo:
