I'm looking for any information and photos of the gear that protected sensitive equipment or openings on the space shuttle orbiter. A listing of caps, coverings, Remove Before Flight tags, etc., and their location would be great. If anyone has the parts/serial number of them that would be a bonus! Thanks! |

Is there a standard part number or serial number associated with NASA Remove Before Flight tags? I've been finding that Part Number/Serial Number NAS1756** (* indicating unknown digits) and NAS1756-24 have been used, can this be verified? |

The Remove Before Flight tags used with the external tank, if not also the solid rocket boosters and orbiter, had KSC Form numbers along their top, e.g. KSC Form 4-226 (6/77). You can see an example of this style tag from the external tank flown on STS-1 on the cover of Scott Phillips' aptly-named book, Remove Before Flight. | |
