spaceuk | Anyone else noted how cS is slow loading ? I thought it may be my system , so tried my standby unit - same problem and from several PCs at work - same problem. This afternoon (UK time) took nearly 2 minutes before main screen laoded ? |
Robert Pearlman | Its loading quickly here (and I'm not located where the server is) so it may be a network issue between your ISP and ours... |
Gilbert | It is very slow, even times out sometimes. It's very irritating. |
lunarrv15 | rabbit faster than normal here ..its a go Houston (beep) |
Robert Pearlman | Gilbert, can you be more specific? Are you referring to now or in general? We are currently on a temporary server as our brand new dedicated server and upgraded internet connection are installed. The move to our new home should take place in the next week. That said, if you are experiencing problems reaching cS, please contact me via e-mail at the time you're seeing the trouble. If you can run a traceroute and/or ping report and forward the results, that would be helpful too. |
Rob Joyner | No problems here! |
Gilbert | For the last few days, including today, cS has been very slow to load. Then when I click on a subject line it's even slower, often timing out. It could be a problem on my end, but other sites are loading normally. |
Matt T | I've noticed some slow load times, but I've been more struck by loads of problems with pages not updating e.g. I go to a particular topic on a form; when I press 'back' the page I return to is from an earlier session. This is obviously a caching problem, but as far as I know my browser hasn't been updated recently, and it was behaving fine a week ago. I doubt this is your problem Robert, but mention it in case it sheds any light on Phil and Gilbert's posts. Cheers, Matt ------------------ www.spaceracemuseum.com |
Richard | It's very slow out here. In fact I've written and posted this message while waiting for site to load up. Just kidding. It's normal out here. |
Robert Pearlman | Thanks for the feedback. Of course, I'm interested in doing whatever I can do to provide a better service. Since we are on a temporary server and connection for just a few more days, I'm going to ask that you bear with me and then let me know if after the move you're still experiencing the same problems. In the meantime, I'll ask my IT guys if there are any known problems that may be lending to the issues discussed above. |
1202 Alarm | it was fast as usual all through the day, using a Broadband connection from Switzerland. |
BLACKARROW | I'm not having any problems, and I'm using a seven-year-old computer with Windows 95 and Netscape Navigator Version 4. |
ColinBurgess | No problems down here in Australia using broadband and Windows XP. Just as fast as ever. |
Michael Wright | The site as a whole, but particularly the message board, has been dreadfully slow and I am also using XP and broadband. Hopefully next weeks upgrade will return things to normal. Mike
|
Philip | Everything normal on the outer side of the Atlantic here in Belgium ... May I remark that You should check Your Computer on "SpyWare" ... Try to download the FREE programs " AdAware " or " SpyBot " which You can run once You have surfed the WWW... These programs remove all SpyWare & Unwanted cookies ! Post Scriptum: I don't want to scare anybody but some malicious code can even dial in at some foreign server ! |
spaceuk | Its particularly slow on loading from the 'Messages' front page entry. I have had the same problem sometimes as Matt with what appears to be previous cache pages and needing me to refreshh the page to get upto date. Though I haven't had this problem for a few days I am on broadband service and this slowness has only been last for just over a week. All other sites I access are pretty fats. I notice that the front page has a banner line entry at top of being handled by Infopop. HAs that always been the case ? Still love cS though :-) Phill |
Robert Pearlman | InfoPop has provided the software for this message board since 1999 and I haven't upgraded recently (though will be doing so as soon as we're settled on the new server). Based on the varied reports, this doesn't sound like a server issue but rather a network congestion problem between certain ISPs. All the more reason we are looking forward to 'moving' into our new home. |
OLDIE | No real problems loading using broadband. Today, though, it took about 5 secs instead of being instantaneous! |
paul prendergast | No problems in West Sussex |
HouseDadX4 | No problems here in Yukon, OK either...everything is "OK" |
november25 | Hi Rob and the Gang- I certainly HAVENT ANY PROBLEMS- over here on th ISLE OF MAN. since I do not ahave any choice of a server- ONLY MANX.NET-we are classed as NOT BEING PART OF THE UK-but part of the British Islands- we are CLASSED AS FOREIGNERS---dont know aboutScotland,or Ireland-never mind-thanks to Robert I have made many new friends via this board. Thanks.from Brenda- in the land of nod. this was posted by november25 6.19pm gmt |
Ashy | I thought I'ld add to this. Very slow for me, compared to the normal speed. I wasn' going to mention it when Robert spoke of using a temp' server but still the same for me after a further couple of days. Si |
Robert Pearlman | This appears not to be a problem with our server, nor with our bandwidth that is causing delays, but rather a routing issue which is beyond our control. I have now experienced firsthand, so I can feel your pain. We are going to begin the transition to our new server this weekend and should be completed by mid-next week. I will be upgrading the message board software immediately thereafter, so you may see brief times when the boards will not be available (a message will display in their place). The remainder of the site will not be affected. [This message has been edited by Robert Pearlman (edited March 10, 2005).] |
