T O P I C R E V I E WSTEVE SMITHRuss Still; I hope you and your wife will allow me to use your term of Geekfest without copyright infingement.I had the privilige of attending such an event as Russ's in Atlanta last summer, and really enjoyed it. There were several Collect Space members from the Atlanta area, and maybe up to 100-200 miles away. We enjoyed each others company, enjoyed a nice meal and drinks, and looked at each others colections (I should say small parts), and did some swapping/selling/buying.I enjoyed it so much that I'm considering doing one here in Wichita, and would be glad to host it at my home, and provide for the hospitality, and limited overnight lodging if any require. There seems to be a lot of growing interest in the KC area and around here, so I bvelieve we could pull it off. Dennis, we certainly hope you could come home from DC for this.Anyone else around the country would also be welcome (you can fly here for around $200 RT from most place on advance ticketing). We could include a trip to Cosmosphere, and if there is interest, perhpas I could arrange something special. So, let me know who would be interested. and any preferred dates; Spring? Summer? Hope it happens, and hope to see many of you.[This message has been edited by STEVE SMITH (edited January 04, 2004).]cklofasClose enough for me to drive ! Anytime other than May-June is good for me.micropoozSteve-Great idea!!!With my crazy work-travel situation, it's hard to predict a good or bad date for me now. Just set one that is easy for everyone else and I'll do my best to be there.Best,DennisLunarRoverWe are always just a state away in the month of June, and make the annual pilgrimage to the Cosmosphere. Mid June is best for us four, from Arnold's Land of Total Recall. MrSpace86That is an excellent idea! I would suggest summer time, if not, let's make it a weekend. I'm up for it. Heck, we should get an astronaut from Kansas to join us.-RodrigoGilbertSteve,If you go ahead and pick a date it will help folks like me that live far away with the planning. I've wanted to visit the Kansas Cosmosphere for years. This would give me an excuse.STEVE SMITHI'm going to suggest the weekend of Saturday June 12 and/or Sunday June 13. I'll certainly entertain any groundswell for a different date.As we firm up attendees, and interests, I'll try to set up a proposed agenda.I'll also begin to see if we can get an astronaut to be present.Gilbert, thrilled to hear you might come. You know there are non stopflights on Airtran and Delta fron Atlanta to Wichita, for usually around $200 RT. LunarRoverJune 12, 13 is about right for our motlety bunch.Anyone who hasn't been to the Cosmosphere is in for a real treat. I'd suggest we plan at least the majority of a day there..I've been through the Apollo gallery more than once and never make it in less than four hours. That's after you turn the corner into the Apollo gallery, not starting at the V-2. New visitors should bring protection for their jaws which will get scrapped up quite badly being dragged around on the floor.[This message has been edited by LunarRover (edited January 05, 2004).]Russ StillI've also always wanted to see the Cosmosphere. This might be the excuse I've been waiting for. Count me in, tentatively.RickI think maybe Neil Armstrong is free that weekend as well ... STEVE SMITHRick, I certainly know that you'll quit your job, and skip the Pocono Busch Race that weekend if our good friend Neil comes. And no, we won't steal his and Buzz's Apollo 11 Lunar surface glove from Cosmosphere for you.10/4 good buddy.DC GiantsSteve,Sounds like fun!PatHouseDadX4Noooooooo!!!! Don't skip Pocono...It's Nextel Cup...that can't be missed...NASCAR (My other addiction) Rules!!!! Sy LiebergotHey Steve,Got your e-mail--thanks for the thoughtful invitation to your Geekfest. Coincidentally, my publisher, Apogee Books just called with the news that a local university wants me to do a 'Leadership Seminar' talk at The Cosmosphere. Details are sketchy right now and The Cosmosphere is talking May. We'll ask if mid-june is okay, as well. Should know more next week.--SySTEVE SMITHThanks for the update, and keep me informed. Hope we can make our two dates match. Is it Hutchinson Jr. College wanting you to appear. Of course 6/10-12/04 would probably be after school is out. Could you come both times?Possible participants, would you be willing to do this to match Sy's date if it happens in May? Please advise. To facilitate this happening, I'd be willing to host visitors and make a weekend out of it for both 6/12-13/04, and Sy's appearance.Sy, if you come, I'll buy the ingredients if you'll cook us some of your famous chilli. I believe I can even provide the proper matching wine for such an occassion. On another note, Marcia Ball, who I know some of you like is giving an open air concert at our zoo Thursday night 6/10/04. Come on down then and catch a wonderful show in the early summer warm air.fabfivefreddyI think I will go- only a 2-3 hrs drive for me. Sounds fun! The Cosmosphere is a must for any true space nut. It rivals anything in D.C.IMO, it is the best Space museum I have ever seen. Tahir RickMaybe Sy could get Neil to show ... it's all in WHO you know!!!Sy Liebergot quote:Originally posted by Rick:Maybe Sy could get Neil to show ... it's all in WHO you know!!!Haha--don't hold your breath...SySTEVE SMITHDennis, to answer your question, it is Saturday 6/12/04, carrying over into Sunday 6/13/04 if there is interest. Can you bring some of your famous "micropooz" covers for us to see such as yuor current virtual exhibit on the history of Murdoc/Edwards?HouseDadX4June 12/13 sounds great to me..Only 2 hours from Wichita...the next weekend, the Blue Angels will be here in Oklahoma City performing...Everyone come on down....BrianYukon, OKSTEVE SMITHThis in no way is to distract from attendance at the Kansas Geekfest Saturday/Sunday 6/12-13/04, but how many of you Mid Westerners are going to see Capt. Dick Gordon at the KC autograph show 3/27-28/04.As my son and daughter In Law, and 6 year old Grandaughter are having an outing at "Great Wolf Lodge" Water Park/Lodge and Cabella's that weekend, I'm going.Any chance of meeting other C/S's there? DC Giant, I know as serious Comic Book Collector, this will be a big deal for you.[This message has been edited by STEVE SMITH (edited February 12, 2004).]DC GiantsSteve,Yep, I will be going! I have been going to that show for the last several years, and they usually have good guests (astronaut and comic related). Last year Dick Gordon and Ed Mitchell were there and were signing autograph pictures for about $35.00 if memory serves. Last year Dick gave a talk to a room of about 8 people, so we got plenty of individual questions in.Pat
