history in miniature | Monogram's 1/48th scale Lunar Module with New Wares' detail set, Space Model Systems' decals and real Kapton (thanks Jurg). Built under commission for a fellow cSer. |
KSCartist | Simply beautiful! Great job Steve.
|
apolloprojeckt | Super job Steve... looks great!!! |
Norman.King | She is a beautiful model and yes, I’m very pleased with it -- thanks Steve. It's as accurate a model of LM-5 that you're likely to get and complements the CSM Steve also built for me perfectly. |
Gilbert | Awesome! |
GACspaceguy | Steve, you have the LM nailed! |
history in miniature | Thanks to all, Steve |
alanh_7 | Let me also add... what a beautiful model. |
jasonelam | Great job! |
Space Emblem Art | I keep looking at your model and waiting for the front hatch to open and Neil start backing out onto the porch. It's like you took an actual LM and shrunk it down. Absolutely great! Meanwhile, would you have a view from the bottom side you could post? |
tegwilym | Looks so good that all you need is a lunar surface and you could hoax your own moon landing! JOKING! |
history in miniature | Again, a heartfelt thanks to all who have posted. I have provided a couple of more pictures. The only feature that I did not highlight on the model because of scale was the silver rivets. Every one of them is present but in this scale they overwhelm the model, and the beige/green color of the anodized 5056 aluminum does not show through and each panel was different color. This was the first time they used this procedure on the 5056 aluminum and after LM-5 they got a handle on the process. LM-5 therefore had a unique ascent stage color. 2024 aluminum used a sulfuric acid anodizing process and the 5056 aluminum used a chromic acid process. |
Space Emblem Art | Thanks for posting those additional views. Absolutely remarkable!! |
Skyforce1 | Steve, the LM belongs in a museum, for it truly is an exceptional work of art!! Outstanding job!! |
Jerry Brouillette | Great work Steve, you really nailed it with the skin covering. Looks like you could poke a scale finger through it! These things are so fragile and ungainly looking, its amazing the moon landings went as well as they did. Was that a great era or what!! |
snoopie | That is a great model history in miniature, maybe you can also place some close up photos of an inch close? Maybe you knew this guy also, Vincent Meens? He is already building a LM for more than five years, unbelieving people what you are going to see... |
history in miniature | I know Vincent's LM well, we are both members of the Space Modelers group. Vincent's model is 1/24 scale, mine is 1/48th scale, half the size. |
apolloprojeckt | Just what Steve said, 1/24 is more easy to paint and not forgot the foil parts than a scale 1/48, 1/48 is more tweezers work... But I must give Vincent a compliment for his more than five years building on that LM. He must be a very patient model builder. |
dfox | You must look at the pictures on the website. This thing is totally insane!!! |

Steve doesn't have LM 5 anymore but I'm pleased to do this for you. |
tegwilym | That 1/24th scale LM is amazing. You can almost see the 1201 alarm on the DSKY! |
