HeinleinNC Apollo FanI have nothing but respect for all of our astronauts, though if pressed I would have to say that I am partial to Alan Bean. Hardworking, loyal, and dedicated - and to this day he is willing to take time to speak with those who have questions about his time on Apollo 12 with Pete and Richard.WAWalsh Have to admit, this one is incredibly difficult because I do have a world of respect for them all. Narrowing it down to ten would be difficult. Since we were asked to identify only one astronaut, however, I will add my own campaign for Ed White. thecollector quote:Originally posted by NC Apollo Fan:I have nothing but respect for all of our astronauts, though if pressed I would have to say that I am partial to Alan Bean. Bean asking about his time on Apollo 12, asking only for a brief paragraph two (actually I didn't specify other that brief but that's what I had in mind) Each time I received his pre-printed pink sheet telling his autograph prices and that he has better things to do than answer letters. I would rather have gotten no response at all. My vote would be with Gene Cernan in that group although if I had to pick a favorite of all I would pick Jerry Ross. EdNC Apollo FanSorry to hear about your experiences with Alan Bean, that is dissapointing. I have had a very different experience, obviously.PhilipOrange PUMPKIN suit - never heard that one ! Great !dseussMy vote goes to Gene Cernan. My brother is a technician for ABC News and was assigned to all of the shuttle launches throughout the 80's. In August, 1983 (I was 16) I had the opportunity to attend the first shuttle night launch. At that time Cernan was doing broadcasts for ABC. Late that evening I saw Cernan quickly running through the press site. Of course, I had to stop him for his autograph! Well, not even breaking his stride, he turned me down cold with a big "no!"--he said he had "important business to attend to". A little down in the dumps, I went on my way, but quickly turned around and saw him enter a nearby port-a-potty! Several minutes later I was at another area of the press site when Cernan tapped me on the shoulder....he actually tracked me down to sign an autograph for me! [This message has been edited by dseuss (edited April 01, 2001).]thecollectorExcellent Story!!I have 3 favorite astronauts and Gene Cernan is without a doubt one of them. Story Musgrave and Jerry Ross are the others. Please amend my choice to Grissom...... but for the intervetion of fate's hand he would have been first, he deserved to be first, he should have been first. I understand there is a parallel universe where Neil Armstrong was backup on A11 and whose autograph fethches $10 - such is the fickleness of fate.JoethecollectorTrue--Gus deserves a lot of votesastronutLast chance to vote.
