[b]Space Cover #510: Apollo 16 UVC observatory[/b] The cover for this week's Space Cover of the Week commemorates the Apollo 16 moon landing on April 20, 1972. Among the payloads was the Lunar Surface Ultraviolet Camera Spectrograph, the first moon based observatory. Designed developed and fabricated at the Naval research Laboratory, Washington, DC. The experiment was designed to measure the ampunt and excitation of hydrogen in nearby regions of the universe. The 178 frames of film was returned for processing and analysis. The cover was autographed by Principal Investigator and Chief Engineer Dr. George Carruthers.
